Common questions

How do I book an appointment?

Send a message through the contact form, call 510-210-1028, or email mayra@clarotherapy.com. We’ll start with a free 15-minute phone consultation to see if we’re a good fit, then schedule your first session.

Do you accept insurance?

I’m in network with Aetna, Anthem Blue Cross, Blue Shield of California, Carelon Behavioral Health, Cigna, Optum / UnitedHealthcare, and Sutter Health Plan. If you don’t see your plan, ask me and I’ll check. I can also provide you with a receipt (superbill) to give to your insurance to seek reimbursement. Plans that reimburse for therapy include PPOs and HSAs; they usually cover a percentage of your fees, but not the total amount. Contact your insurance provider and ask if they cover “out-of-network” psychotherapy services.

Can I get an estimate of what therapy will cost?

Yes. Under the No Surprises Act, if you don’t have insurance or aren’t using it, you have the right to receive a “Good Faith Estimate” explaining how much your care will cost. You can ask for one before you schedule, and I’ll provide it in writing at least one business day before your first session. If you receive a bill that is at least $400 more than your Good Faith Estimate, you can dispute the bill. For more information, visit cms.gov/nosurprises or call 1-800-985-3059.

What is the first session like?

We will review your intake questionnaire and discuss some initial goals for therapy. Then I’ll ask you some standard health history questions. You can also ask me as many questions as you want. My aim is to be as transparent as possible about the therapy process. By the end of your first session, you’ll have a good idea of how long it will take to reach your goals.
